Areas of Practice, Described

Civil Litigation: Representing clients in the prosecution and defense of general civil litigation in state court. Civil litigation includes all disputes that are formally submitted to a court, about any subject in which one party is claimed to have committed a wrong, but not a crime.

As a "general practice" firm we are frequently called upon to handle a wide variety of issues including everything from simple to complex contracts to boundary line disputes.

The firm also practices not-for-profit law and is counsel to a number of arts, religious and charitable organizations, as well as advising clients in their "for profit" business activities.

Municipal Law: Rod Futerfas presently represents the Town of Woodstock and has done so since 1979. He has also acted as Town Attorney and Special Counsel for the Town of Ulster, the Town of Rochester and the Town of Denning. He advises the towns on a wide range of matters including zoning, planning, code enforcement issues as well as contractual issues.

Real Estate Law: In addition to the traditional residential house and business acquisition closings, Rod Futerfas also handles real estate litigation covering such areas as boundary line and quiet title proceedings. He regularly accepts referrals on such technical matters from other practitioners.

Rachel Cavell handles real estate matters out of our Kingston office and her Rhinebeck office.

Matrimonial Law: Representing clients in negotiating separation agreements as well as pre-nuptial and post nuptial agreements, and also representing them in contested and uncontested divorce actions. Josh Koplovitz has been practicing in this area for over 40 years.

Family Law: Representing clients in the New York Family Court, including custody, visitation, child support, and spousal support.
